As Boston Scientific approached its 25th anniversary, the organization was in a period of considerable transition. After several major acquisitions nearly tripled its size in less than a decade, the company had launched its first master brand initiative positioning it as one unified company.
As an entrepreneurial company that had made history by pioneering medical devices, The History Factory recommended that the Boston Scientific’s major thrust during its 25th corporate anniversary year should be discovering and capturing its documentary and anecdotal history—and that of the companies it had acquired—before it was lost. Through an intensive campaign to gather content—stories, products, photos, documents, and artifacts—the key measurable result from the 25th anniversary would be the success in capturing and building one organizational memory for the company’s ongoing use.
More than 1,800 artifacts were donated by employees from around the world, and close to 100 interviews were conducted with longtime employees. This content was re-purposed into an engaging traveling exhibit that used stories and other content from Boston Scientific’s history to reinforce brand initiatives throughout the anniversary celebrations.
